CONVERSATION BETWEEN KALIDASA & A GIRL

CONVERSATION IN SANSKRIT

The following Shloka is the proof that in ancient days Sanskrit was the lingua franca (language of conversation or communication in Bharat.

See this small conversation in a verse form. It is believed to be held between Kalidasa and a Girl of his Village.

का त्वं बाले ! काञ्चनमाला कस्याः पुत्री ? कनकलतायाः ।
हस्ते किं ते ? तालीपत्रं का वा रेखा ? क ख ग घ ॥

का त्वं बाले = who are you Girl? काञ्चनमाला = (I am) Kanchanamala (name) कस्याः पुत्री ? = Whose daughter are you? कनकलतायाः = (Daughter of) Kanakalata (mother’s name) हस्ते किं ते ? = What is in your hand? तालीपत्रं = Palm Leaf, का वा रेखा ? = What is written in that? क ख ग घ – Ka, Kha, Ga, Gha (Alphabets).
